Anna Thomas elementary school principal at
Community Christian Academy, and the Board of Directors are pleased to announce
the receipt of $100,000 from J. Lane Peck for the purpose of technology
enhancements for elementary students.
“Mr. Peck called me to find out if we could make
good use of some additional funding, and we had discussed technology. But I
never thought we would have an opportunity like this,” said Mrs. Thomas. The faculty formed a technology team to
determine the highest and best use of the contribution. “There are so many things you can do,
but we wanted to make sure that our enhancements were scalable and portable,
and we wanted to do this in a way that honors Mr. Peck.”
Through the program, the school purchased 68
computers, a laser printer for each classroom, a color laser printer, a
document camera for each classroom (capable of capturing any image to project),
smartboards for each classroom, and servers and wireless network equipment for
the entire school. The school also
refurnished their computer lab to provide furniture better suited for younger
students.
With keyboard and technology training beginning in kindergarten,
CCA is confident that their students will be well-equipped for the
technological opportunities of the future. Additionally, internet access in all classrooms enhances
learning and research. “This new
technology will enable our teachers to teach in a way that addresses individual
learning needs and engage the students in a more interactive environment. We
feel that our opportunities to teach and learn are unlimited. With the assistance of Mr. Peck, we
continue our path to academic excellence by the technological advances we offer
to young minds and enhanced teaching techniques for educators,” said Mrs.
Thomas.
CCA was also blessed to receive in-kind gifts of
installation and services from Brandon Griffith and ISG who advised the school
regarding the purchase and personally oversaw the installation, and Steve
Thomas from Data Vault who is providing all of our back-up (free of charge).
