9th grade

August 12-Students will do exercise 36 for their assignment on 8/13. They should identify the subnect noun with one line under the noun and two lines under the verb. Check on 8/13.

August 13th- Check exercise on page 36.  Assign adjectivesk page 424.  Exercise 38 40

41 for 4/16 follow directions.

August 16th Check homework on adjectives. Assign adverbs on page 430 exc 49-50. Identify the subject noun verbs adjectives and adverbs.

August 17- Check exercise on page 430. Assign  and assign comparative adverbs exc 51-52-54

August 18th- Chack adverbs and assign Prepositions.  Assign first line of prepositions for memory work on 8/19. Do exercise 58-59.

8/19- Check prepositions homework. Also check first line of prepositions aloud lfor memory work on page 435. Assign seconld lone for 4/20. Assign study sheet for prepositions. Identify subject noungs verbs adjectives and adverbs in the sentences.  Assign another study sheet for work on prepositions.

8/20 Check study sheets. Check second linme of prepositions from memory. Assign line number 3

Review homework on prepositions on study sheet.

Note a daily grade is taken on each homework assignment.

8/24 Students are responsible for memory work on Correlative and common subordinating conjunctions.  As well home work is Exc 61 and Exc 62 on page 438 and 439

8/25 Students will do exc 63 and 64 dealing with conjunctions on page 440.

8/26 Students will develop conjunctive adverbs. Exc 65 and 68 on page 441 and 442.

8/27 Students will be tested on 8 parts of speech with identification of those in sentences. Students will also be tested over the 52 prepositions.  They are to be listed as in the text which we have been studying in class.

9/1 Students are responsible for reading Chapters 789 for Thursday 9/2. They have questions for discussion in the package assigned to them preciously in class.  They are to do the questions for discussion for the class on 9/2. On task reading in class is given to the students for preparation of the assignment.

9/2 Check questions for discussion in class. Students should make certain that they have the questions. A participation grade is taken. Students should read chapters 10,11,12 for 9/7.  Questions for discussion in packet is also assigned for the reading.  

9/3 Students will have the opportunity to work on Vocabulary assignment in package. Vocabulary test will be on 9/8, To Kill A Mockingbird. 1-20. Develop in class.

9/7 Answer questions from chapters 10,11,12. Students should read chapters 13,14,15 and answer questions for 9/9. Questions are previously assigned in packet.

9/8- Vocabulary test over TKMB 1-20. Students have that assignment dealing with the words.

 

Junior English

8/16-Students will discuss homework assigned above on exc 5950616263.  Take grade on homework.  Assign prepositions and prepositions should be memorized and ready to recite orally on page 30.  Column 1 only

8/17- Students should be prepared to recite column 1 of prepositions. Assign exercise 66 and 68 on prepositional phrases page 432 for 6/18. Column 2 of prepositions should be ready to recite on 8/18.  Prepositions are on page 430.

8/18- Check memorizations of line 2 of prepositions.  Check homework assigned.  Assign exercise 69-70 on page 433. Also assign line number 3 of prepositions.  Commit to memory and stand and recite on 8/20.

8/19. Catch up day on recitation of prepositions through line 3.

8/20- Assign handout on prepositions for Monday 8/23.

8/23- Check handout on preposition homework.  Assign number 4 of prepositions for 8/24. Stand and recite prepositions.  Do preposition handout number 2 for 8/25.

8/24. Students are to have correlative conjunctions and and subordinating conjunctions due in class with memory work. They are to do exc 74 and exc 75 on page 436 and 437. Oral recitation will take place in class.

8/25/ Students will do exc 76 77 78 for 8/26.

8/26 Check homework on conjunctions as listed above and assign 78, 79, and 80, 82 for homework.

8/27- Students will be tested over the parts of speech which have been studied in class since the beginning of school.  They will also be tested over tje 52 prepositions.

8/30 students will begin to study the Verbals  which is on page 479 of the text. Students will begin with participles and participle phrases. Assign exc number 7 and 8.

8/31 Check exercises in class and assign extra work on participle phrases through handout.

9/1 Check exercises listed above and begin to study the Gerunds and Gerund Phrases.  Do pages 481 exc 9 and exercise 10 on page 482.

 

 Drama-

The students have just gone through tryouts in Drama class for the fall production of A Man Called Peter.  They are watching the movie now about this production. There are twenty-two students in this class which will be the cast for all the shows in the fall christmas, and spring. At the present time the video is being shown relating to A Man Called Peter to assist the students in beginning to develop their character. A detailed rehearsal sheet will be handed out when the video is completed. Students will be graded as they meet the needs for the production daily.

The show is scheduled in late November with a Saturday and Sunday afternoon performance. Rehearsals will be held in room 106 until 2 weeks prior to the show.  They will be held in the class period.  Two weeks before the show, the group will be in rehearsal from 6-8 each week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights until show time. All students will be expected to be present for these rehearsals.

Upon completion of the video, a rehearsal schedule will be posted. Tickets will be mailed to the parents of the students three weeks prior to the show. Parents will need to return the money or tickets on Thursday before the show opens on Saturday.

Mrs. Cox will again be in charge of the refreshment room both days of the show.  She will be contacting you regarding food for the performances. The show is a 3 act production and has comic moments. Parents will be asked to work make-up on the faces of the students for the production.

September 6th Labor day. Nor rehearsal.

Note- Each student has been givven a hard copy of what is being done in class through November 7th. Following November 7th, each student will tryout for the christmas show which is slated to take place in November.  This will be done by the high school
